Countermeasures provides consulting services for the United States Department of Energy; United States Air Force Tactical Recapture Forces; United States Army Special Operations Forces; Department of the Treasury's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms; United States Drug Enforcement Administration; National Institute of Corrections; and many state, city and county law enforcement agencies.
Countermeasures has contracted with the U.S. Air Force Space Command for training Tactical Recapture Forces in counter-terrorism specific to nuclear missile silo recapture and recovery.
Countermeasures has contracted with U.S. Army Special Forces in providing “train-ups” for units being deployed in hostile environments. Countermeasures has contracted with the U.S. Army to conduct Tactical Vehicle Operations Courses providing “train-ups” for units being deployed to OEF and OIF.
Douglas G. Pechtel, founder of Countermeasures is a former member of the U.S. Army’s DELTA FORCE. He participated in select classified operational missions as a member of a unit tasked with immediate worldwide response to conduct sensitive special operations. During that period, he was personally recognized by the President of the United States for “professionalism, leadership, and bravery displayed during a rescue mission,” received a Presidential award for “exceptional leadership, initiative and professional competence while conducting worldwide special operations,” and Department of Defense awards for “actions which enhanced the military posture and national security interests of the United States.”
In addition to special operations around the world, Doug was involved in sensitive, special operations in Beirut, Lebanon and Khartoum, Sudan in support of United States national security interests specific to anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism.
Doug was selected by the U.S. Department of State to prepare for President Aristide’s return to Haiti by training, advising and leading a fifty man Haitian body guard force (the new Haitian Secret Service). Additionally, he provided close protective security for President Aristide upon his return.
Doug served as the Commander of the Special Operations Division for the U.S. Department of Energy for seven years. Doug was responsible for providing an immediate and viable law enforcement counter-terrorist tactical response to protect the Department of Energy’s (DOE) security interest. Duties included managing and commanding the forty-four man Special Operations Division during normal operations and emergencies. Additionally, Doug was instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of DOE’s command and control structure for counter-terrorism.
Doug is a retired Sergeant Major. His last assignment was as the Company Sergeant Major for B Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Utah Army National Guard, United States Army. Doug’s unit has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, spending seven months conducting combat operations against al Qaeda and the Taliban, three of those months conducting unconventional warfare operations out of a cave in Southeastern Afghanistan. Additionally, Doug and his unit conducted mounted, direct action and special recon operations in Northern Afghanistan. Doug was awarded the Bronze Star. Doug’s unit was deployed to Jolo Island, Republic of the Philippines for 10 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom – Philippines to conduct special operations by, with and through the Philippine military to kill or capture high value terrorist targets.
